- You will be part of the Monetary Policy Strategy Division in the Directorate General Monetary Policy. Our Division analyses and assesses the ECB’s monetary policy stance and reviews the implementation and effectiveness of the ECB’s monetary policy strategy. In your role as Senior Economist you will be part of the Strategy Issues Section, in which 12 members of staff review the implementation and effectiveness of the internal and external elements of the monetary policy strategy. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining models and tools to assess the monetary policy stance and analyse its transmission to the economy. You will work closely with senior management and interact with the Executive Board on key policy issues.

- develop econometric and structural models for assessing the monetary policy stance, looking at both standard and non-standard monetary policy instruments;
- establish and maintain conceptual and quantitative assessments of the macroeconomic effects of monetary policy;
- participate in preparing monetary policy decisions and monetary policy communication;
- contribute to policy notes and briefing material for members of the Executive Board and senior management of the ECB;
- contribute to the official publications of the ECB, as well as other publications, presentations and speeches.

Qualifications, experience and skills
- a master’s degree or equivalent in economics or finance or another relevant field ( for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, a minimum of seven years’ experience in the field of economic research or public policy;
- experience in theoretical or empirical modelling of monetary policy;
- strong quantitative skills, including sound experience in the application of econometric and structural modelling to policy analysis;
- proven experience in preparing briefings, policy notes and official communication on monetary policy;
- a sound and thorough understanding of monetary policy, policy operations, the financial system and macroeconomic developments;
- excellent analytical skills, sound policy judgement and the ability to examine policy issues critically within a broader economic and institutional context;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to .
- a PhD and a research and publication record in macroeconomics, preferably related to monetary and financial economics;
- a willingness to support other team members in the achievement of common goals and to build open and trusting relationships within and across teams;
- intellectual curiosity and a keen interest in bringing economic theory and quantitative methods to bear on real-world economic issues and policy analyses;
- excellent oral and written communication skills;
- the ability to adapt existing tools and models to new policy analysis needs under time pressure.
