The Director of Quality Engineering role is accountable for delivering high quality product outcomes to our customers. The scope of this role includes quality engineering including the tools and infrastructure, quality assurance process, release management as well as end to end engineering hygiene.
The role reports to the EVP of Engineering as a member of the Engineering Leadership Team.
While it is everyone’s role to ensure quality, the leader in this role is the premier advocate for the customer within Engineering. The leader is responsible for the vision and strategy for quality within the R&D organization.
The accountable leader in this role is vested with the authority to set the bar on definition of done and hold everyone accountable to meet it. Responsibilities include defining the testing strategy, decisions on the tools and infrastructure required, equipping engineers (dev and QE) with the skills needed to ensure high quality, coaching teams to perform to the high bar we have set, and implementing a metrics driven process that enables us to continuously learn and improve in a safe and fast paced environment.
The ideal leader is someone that has deep passion and proven expertise in quality engineering and assurance, agile and scrum methodologies, metrics driven approach and continuous integration and delivery process. We need a hands-on technology leader with the ability to lead and inspire but also able to get deep in the detail to coach the teams towards great outcomes.
We expect the leader to be able to declare a vision for quality, mobilize cross functional teams and relentlessly drive towards the high bar we have set for ourselves. Ultimately, the leader’s success is our ability to consistently exceed customers’ expectations and ensure they have confidence in us as a reliable technology partner.
We expect the candidate will have a proven background in technology, quality engineering and process, as well as the business acumen to be able to be a strategic leader and consummate executor of outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Quality Engineering and Assurance
► Lead Quality Engineering Managers, having broad responsibility to hire and to build a high performing and capable team
► Be an expert in advanced quality methods and protocol
► Utilize your comprehensive knowledge of standards, company strategy and goals, to ensure a positive customer experience
► Define a common set of tools for our test framework to improve automation quality procedures to minimize manual testing efforts
► Implement and manage a test orchestration, execution and reporting framework that is used by all teams
► Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability and maintainability (clean code, test pyramid)
► Track test gaps, quality, and productivity metrics. Work with other engineering leaders to improve gaps
► Manage personnel activities of staff (i.e., hire, train, appraise, grow, set goals, reward, motivate, conduct 1:1s, write performance reviews)

Release Management

► Forward plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
► Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
► Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time
► Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
► Communicate release details and schedules to the business as required
► Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
► Work with engineers, Scrum Masters, release coordinators and QE to understand impacts of branches and code merges
► Manage release exceptions and its impact on the release
► Maintain the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors
► Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
► Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks

Engineering Hygiene

► Define the metrics and criteria for all non-functional requirements including availability, reliability, quality, performance, security and more
► Build dashboards to track performance against the metrics
►Clearly define roles and responsibilities, processes to track and hold those accountable for the outcomes
►Institute mechanisms to inspect, coach and continuously innovate and improve on the metrics

Qualifications and Experience:

►10+ years of relevant quality engineering experience with the most recent experience at a Director level
►Strategic leader who can create a vision and strategy for quality with a drive to execute and achieve outstanding results, possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, and has the ability to serve as a hands-on leader
►Technical background in the tools and platforms used in a modern SaaS environment especially open source tools and platforms preferably in the public cloud
►Thorough understanding of agile and scrum methodologies, preferably the SAFe Agile process that we use. Experienced in the use of metrics to drive high velocity of outcomes while ensuring that all outcomes meet the definition of done
►A track record of delivering high quality software with a relentless focus on reliable execution that leads to the establishment of high trust with customers
►Strong influencing skills to get things done; a collaborative approach with the ability to partner with business leaders across the enterprise
►Proponent of continuous improvement process and the ability to challenge the status quo

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal and collaborative skills; and the ability to communicate security and risk-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
