Senior Subsystem Integration Leader - Towers (m/f/d) at General Electric

JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Summary:

Selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing the product requirements related to wind turbine towers and ensuring the design meets these requirements. Also, will lead product development projects from concept through operation, managing product cost performance, quality and safety aspects.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Identify key product/program risks & mitigation plans
  • Coordinate between Engineering, Supply Chain, Field Services, & Manufacturing
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Own and define tower requirements for teams throughout engineering to effectively execute programs. Translate DM1 requirements into more specific technical requirements for component owners
  • Work with component owners throughout the design process to ensure the design meets these requirements
  • Own the definition of interfaces between components. Conduct 3D model reviews with PDE and component owners. Work with other Subsystem teams as necessary to define and review interfaces between subsystems
  • Drive cost-out within the tower subsystem – from short-term execution to long-term technology strategy
  • Lead EHS reviews of tower subsystem during NPI programs and for other subsystem modifications
  • Leverage, maintain and/or implement certification requirements per component and subsystems for NPI programs and for other subsystem modifications
  • Gather simulation, factory, laboratory and field test data to build upon existing system and component capabilities
  • As needed, execute SAFER cases, RCAs, etc
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Drive simplification and standardization best practices into engineering analyses, validation, and program execution

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • B.A./M.A. (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Significant experience in design of mechanical systems
  • Strong experience in wind turbine design and its components
  • Solid background in mechanical design engineering, with good mechanical sense and fundamental base
  • Solid experience in designing, qualifying supplier and fleet support for mechanical components
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Technical drawing and design interpretation background
  • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries, ability to work in a matrix team environment
  • Fluent English written and spoken

Desired Characteristics:

  • B.A./M.A. (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Experience with structural design & mechanical integration
  • Working knowledge of 3D-CAD tools like UG
  • Experience with problem solving tools and techniques
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions. Strong desire and ability to drive improvement and change
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
  • Willingness to travel
